Rules & Regulations

The fine print - Contest Rules and Regulations

By entering the contest, you are guaranteeing that you have read and agree to the Rules and Regulations of the contest and you grant the Lifesaving Society, Ontario Branch the right to contact you regarding your entry, publicize your entry, promote your entry for any other purpose related to the Contest and/or broadcast your entry.

Each video must have one Lead Producer to serve as the main point of contact. You may submit as many entries as you like. You must provide your email address, mailing address, phone number, and the school where you participated in the Swim to Survive+ program.

The Lead Producer must be 11-14 years old and have participated in the Swim to Survive+ grade 7 school program between 2014 and 2018. 

Participants may enter the contest via the contest website www.swimtosurviveplus.ca or by sending their information and a copy of their video in .wmv or .mp4 format to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. or to The Lifesaving Society 400 Consumers Road, Toronto ON, M2J 1P8 Attn: Sindy Parsons. Entries will be ineligible if they are incomplete, late, lost, damaged, or are not able to be viewed due to technical error. No entries will be returned. Non-winning entries will be deleted within 6 months of the contest closing date.

All entries must be received no later than midnight on Friday, April 6, 2018. Winning entries will be notified the week of April 9, 2018. Winning entrants will be required to fill out a consent form for themselves and any persons represented by image or sound in their video.

Entries will be judged based on criteria set out by the Lifesaving Society. One prize per winning entry will be awarded to each of the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place entries as determined by the Lifesaving Society. Recognition and prizes will be given to the lead producer. All prizes must be accepted as awarded, are non-transferable, non-exchangeable and have no cash value.

Videos must not exceed 2 minutes in length and must:

  • be in the English language
  • be the original creation of the entrant(s)
  • not feature illegal, harmful or dangerous activities, actions or behaviour
  • not be defamatory, libelous, obscene, lewd, offensive, pornographic, sexually explicit, disparaging or otherwise illegal, objectionable or inappropriate
  • not violate or infringe any copyright, trademark, privacy or publicity right or other proprietary or intellectual property right of any person or entity
  • not contain any copyrighted material not in the public domain or for which you have not obtained the rights to use;
  • not contain any 3rd party voice-overs for which you have not obtained the rights to use;
  • not contain any 3rd party stock photography or artwork for which you have not obtained the rights to use;

All entries must be appropriate for all audiences. Videos referencing sex, drugs, or violence will not be accepted as entries. Any video that includes content that is deemed inappropriate, indecent, obscene, as determined by the Lifesaving Society in its sole discretion, will not be eligible.

Personal safety and the safety of all others involved with the production of the video submission must be maintained at all times. Filming should take place in a safe location and in a safe and responsible manner. The Lifesaving Society will not be liable for any resulting injury, death or damage to any person or property arising from, or relating to, that person’s or any other person’s participation or attempted participation in the contest.

By entering the Swim to Survive+ video contest, each entrant - with the consent of parent(s) and/or guardian(s) - is representing and warranting that the videos they submit are their own creations and that they have obtained permission, if applicable, from the people featured in the video to enter this contest and to use their image and likeness, and permission to use the location where the video is filmed, and that the submission of the idea will not violate any enforceable agreements or understandings the submitter has with any third party.

Rights and stuff

By submitting an entry, each entrant or entering team agrees and hereby irrevocably and perpetually grants and assigns to the Lifesaving Society, Ontario Branch complete ownership and marketing rights to the content, along with the right to use entrant's name, likeness, image and biographical information in any manner and medium in connection with the Swim to Survive + video contest and without any additional compensation. The Lifesaving Society may: (a) edit and/or format the content, (b) create derivative works from the content or any portion thereof, and (c) reproduce, publish, display and distribute any of the content or derivative works in any medium now or hereafter existing, including without limitation, posting on The Lifesaving Society's website or any other website or platform for purposes of the competition and for any general promotional purpose of The Lifesaving Society.
